Biography

I graduated from UCD in 1988 with a BA in Archaeology and Irish Folklore, and with an MA in Archaeology in 1991.  I worked from 1991 to 1995 in the Archaeological Survey of the OPW (now the Department of the Environment), on the Inventories for counties of Carlow, Wicklow and Kildare.  I carried out a PhD on the Neolithic and Bronze Age landscape of Mid-Leinster in the University of Reading, graduating in 1997.  From 1997 to 1999 I worked in the Stadtarchaeologie Wien, the City of Vienna Archaeological Service.  On my return to Ireland I joined the Environmental Impact Assessment office of Margaret Gowen and Company.  I joined the Lake Settlement Project of the Discovery Programme as Senior Research Archaeologist in January 2002.  In February 2004 I set up the River Barrow Valley Project, a study of the prehistoric landscape of this major Irish river.
