Under the FAS JobBridge national internship scheme (Ref. INTE-616850) the Discovery Programme (an institution for advanced research in Irish archaeology) is seeking an:

Archaeological Editorial Assistant

The position would suit an unemployed archaeologist at the beginning of their career who is interested in getting experience of the various production processes involved in major archaeological publications, as well as work in an important research environment.  The person must be 3 months on the Live Register.  Applications must go through FAS.

Currently the Discovery Programme has 9 major works at various preliminary stages in the production process which will lead eventually to full publication in book form. These include works on:

  • Dún Aonghusa and the related stone monuments along the west coast
  • the late medieval archaeology of Co. Roscommon,
  • late prehistoric artefacts from the lower Shannon region
  • the prehistoric archaeology of the Barrow valley
  • the archaeology of Tara

The person appointed will be employed in the first instance on the two very extensive draft volumes dealing with Dún Aonghusa and the related stone monuments along the west coast, and he/she will work under the supervision of the Project Director.

Duties will include:

  • Formatting the text and checking cross-referencing
  • Co-ordinating illustration numbers, captions etc
  • Sourcing and scanning additional illustrations
  • Checking and amending bibliographies
