Irish National Strategic Archaeological Research (INSTAR) Programme: Findings from the First Phase 2008-2011

The Irish National Strategic Archaeological Research (INSTAR) Programme: Findings from the First Phase 2008-2011 day-long conference on the 30th September is an initiative of the Heritage Council, and supported by the Royal Society for Antiquities (RSAI) and the Institute for Archaeologists of Ireland (IAI). It is to be the first INSTAR research conference. The day will include project papers, discussion groups and a chance for debate on the diversity and impact of archaeological research which has taken place in Ireland since 2008 under the INSTAR grants programme. Papers are to include:

  • Making Christian Landscapes
  • Neolithic & Bronze Age Landscapes of North Mayo
  • An integrated, comprehensive GIS model of landscape evolution & landuse history in the River Boyne Valley
  • Early Medieval Archaeology Project I & II
  • Mapping Death: People, Boundaries & Territories in Ireland 1st to 8thth Centuries AD
  • The People of Prehistoric Ireland: Health and Demography
  • WODAN: Developing a wood and charcoal database for Ireland
  • Cultivating Societies: assessing the evidence for agriculture in Neolithic Ireland

Anyone interested in such archaeological themes from landscape and settlement to environment and climate change, and in sites stretching across the country dating from the neolithic to post-medieval era, is welcome. Hear about the latest in a wide variety of case studies and research developments, current approaches to data analysis techniques and presentation. All within the archaeological sector and professionals from relevant disciplines will find this conference of particular value. Interested individuals and students are welcome.

Conference attendees with IAI membership will be accredited with 10 CPD points, as part of the ongoing IAI CPD programme.
