Lecture for Martin Doody

The Discovery Programme organised a lecture in honour of Martin Doody, the former Director of the Ballyhoura Hills Project on 7 December 2015, in the Helen Roe Theatre, Merrion Square. The lecture entitled ‘Hillforts, warfare and society in Bronze Age Ireland’ was delivered by Professor William O’Brien to an audience which included members of Martin’s family, his former colleagues and friends, academic and professional archaeologists as well as interested members of the public. The high quality of the research presented was reflected in the number of questions provoked by the paper and the lively discussion during the reception afterwards.

Martin Doody, a graduate of archaeology from University College Cork, was the Project Director of the Discovery Programme’s Ballyhoura Hills Project from 1992 to 2002. He published The Ballyhoura Hills Project (Discovery Programme Monograph No. 7) in 2008, a masterly study of the archaeology and landscape of a region on the borders of Cos Cork and Limerick and in west Tipperary.
