Appointment of Chris Flynn as acting CEO for the Discovery Programme.

The Board of the Discovery Programme has approved the appointment of Chris Flynn as acting, part-time CEO.

Chris retired as Principal Officer (Higher) in 2015 from the then Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. He was the desk officer for the National Cultural Institutions with responsibility for their funding, staffing, physical infrastructure, policy and legislative provision, digitisation and major acquisitions and projects. In addition, he liaised with Directors (CEOs), Boards and advised successive Ministers on these issues. Chris served as a board member of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, was a Commissioner of the Irish Manuscripts Commission and served on the board of the RIA project on the History of Irish Art and Architecture for its duration. He serves on a number of interview panels for the Public Appointments Service and also engages in private advisory work.

Navigo Consulting have commenced the review of the Discovery Programme and the Board are in agreement that it would be appropriate to await the outcome of the review, which is to be completed by the end of 2019, before giving consideration to the appointment process for a full-time CEO. They believe the appointment of Chris Flynn as acting CEO of the Discovery Programme, will bring management stability and leadership at a crucial time.
