New appointment to the Discovery Programme Board
The Heritage Council has appointed Mr Steven Roberts, Head of Marketing for Griffith College to the board of the Discovery Programme: Centre for Archaeology and Innovation Ireland. Mr Roberts has been appointed to the board for a term of three years beginning in January 2020.

Mr Steven Roberts is Head of Marketing for Griffith College. Over the past 15 years, he has held a range of marketing and senior management roles in Ireland and overseas, specialising in the areas of education, heritage, strategy and tourism marketing. He was Tourism Ireland's manager for the Nordic Region, he also served as Director of Marketing for Heritage Island, a visitor attraction marketing group. Steven's work on a return on marketing investment model for the tourism sector was short-listed for an All-Ireland Marketing Award in 2012. As Griffith College’s Head of Marketing, Steven oversees all marketing, brand and promotional activities in the Irish and UK markets, managing national marketing, digital, PR and social media teams. Steven is a certified Data Protection Officer, he sits on Griffith College's Data Protection Committee, the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland Data Protection & Information Security Working Group and IBEC's Digital Economy Policy Committee. He is a regular contributor to national and international marketing and business publications on the topics of strategy, data protection and marketing.

The Chair of the Board, Professor Gabriel Cooney, welcomed Steven to the Board and is looking forward to working with him as a Board member. He stated that the Board would benefit from the range of expertise that Steven brings.

The vacancy on the board of the Discovery Programme arose after Dr Ruth Johnson, Dublin City Archaeologist, stepped down from the board. Professor Cooney paid tribute to the important contribution that Dr Johnson has made to the Board.
