Lough Kinale: studies of an Irish lake had a second launch on 5 June at the beautiful new sports centre in Abbeylara, Co. Longford. The village of Abbeylara is close to the shores of Lough Kinale and was the base for the project for several years during the fieldwork and excavations. The book was launched by Ms Peggy Nolan, Mayor of Longford, and the event was attended by a number of people living in the area, including the owners of the land on which much of the work was undertaken - Bertram and Monika Larenz - as well as members of local history and archaeology interest groups. Other groups represented included the Granard Area Action group. Many of the team who worked on the project were also present as was the Chairman of the Discovery Programme, Dr Michael Ryan.
Several local elected representatives turned up for the occasion, including: Cllr Tony Stokes, Mayor of Granard, Cllr P J Reilly, Peter Kelly TD and James Bannon TD. The Heritage Officer for Co. Longford, Mairéad Ní Chongaile, was also present. The Discovery Programme is especially grateful to Cllr Reilly and Ms Ní Chonghaile for helping to organise what was a very pleasant event.
