Islands of the Dead

The cameo project “Islands of the Dead” is analysing human osteological material (primarily skulls) found on crannogs and in other water-related contexts such as lakes and rivers. This is an all Ireland investigation. Altogether 65 skulls were radio-carbon dated, indicating a clear patterning in the distribution over time. The Osteologist Patricia Lynch continued the work of Dr Maire Delaney on these human remains.

The monograph detailing the results of the project is now (March 2009) well advanced for publication.
