Mary has over 11 years experience in the heritage sector, working in the fields of buildings archaeology, heritage consultancy, lecturing and community heritage initiatives. Along with colleagues, she achieved EU Europa Nostra award-winning outcomes for the public through a heritage education programme with the Heritage Council in 2013. She created and delivered the Heritage Appraisal module for the DIT Planning School for 4 years. As Project Co-ordinator for the highly-regarded Heritage Council INSTAR grants programme, she saw some world-class research projects develop. Her own research interests focus on public and civic space, having researched the evolution of county courthouses for her MA in Buildings Archaeology in UCC.
