Terrestrial Laser Scanning Equipment
The Discovery Programme has a Trimble GS101 laser scanner. A ruggedised Itronix pen computer (running Pointscape 3.1 software) is connected to control the scanner and to store the data. Power is supplied from a Kippor Sinemaster (1000watt) petrol generator.
Software
Pointscape 3.1
This is the software hosted on the laptop which controls the operation of the scanner, defining the scan area, resolution, targeting etc.
RealWorks Survey 5.1
Realworks is the registration, segmentation, georeferencing and data output software. This is the software which allows the raw point cloud data to be processed into a useful data set, outputting the orthoimage plan views, extracting cross-sections and allows measurement direct from the point-cloud. Data can be exported to third party software for further data processing and manipulation.
Realworks Viewer
A simplified version of realworks which has none of the processing, analysis or manipulation tools but allows the viewing of point-cloud data.
Geomagic 9.0
Geomagic 9.0 software which enables surface models to be built from point-cloud data. This is a vital stage if we are to use scan data for further analysis and to create 3D models of monuments or structures. The software has intelligent decimation and ‘noise’ reduction routines to enable manageable data sets for surface modeling.
